day 365 newport coast

the crystal cove christmas tree on the beach. well, this is it. the last photo for my one photo a day for one year. my photo for the first day was the crystal cove christmas tree so i thought i'd end the year with their christmas tree in front of the beachcomber reataurant where my son and i had lunch today. it's been fun and i thank you all for tolerating me and my daily photos and for all of your comments. thanks! happy new year!

day 364 santa ana

lyon air museum. this was a good idea for today. and since it's right next to the airport you can watch planes take off and land right there outside the window. cool museum with planes, motorcycles and cars and historical items. we've been here a few times before but it's been a while.

day 357 home

i fell in love with this snowman at the sawdust festival in laguna beach. the artist sells out of them fast so i had to order one and went back to pick it up another day. i love him. (the snowman, not the artist!) the artist is michael panetta. he has beautiful blown glass art. most of it is different than this. but it's winter and christmas time...so...

day 355 torrance

after visiting a friend in torrance i decided to take a drive through a neighborhood nearby with a lot of christmas lights. i took a few pictures but nothing good enough to post really but my mind was on other things. but somehow i got this. i don't even know what it is actually but it reminds me of something we were talking about tonight. so this one's for you anne.

day 351 la mirada

awesome griswold family christmas house. i couldn't get it all in one shot because there were so many people there checking it out. there was a beat up old motorhome, a station wagon with a huge christmas tree on top of it, and a squirrel...mannequin character people all over the yard and front porch, plus they even had some snow falling periodically. and popcorn and hot chocolate. my dad used to live in this neighborhood so i spent a lot of time here growing up.

day 342 cerritos

masked and distanced santa at los cerritos center. so weird to see the difference between los angeles and orange counties. cross the county border to oc and you can sit on santa's lap mask-free. i should say some places. apparently mall sant's are still distanced. (i am not posting this for discussion about this current situation! this is just my photo of the day showing this sign of the times. please let's not fight! )

day 337 long beach

california state university long beach japanese garden. my son and i had just gotten there, we went straight to look at the koi fish, when we heard and saw a big splash, a bird! it snatched a fish out of the water in it's claws and flew away with it! we were both looking at each other and then at the bird flying away carrying the fish and then back at each other all wide eyed and with mouths open like woah!! it was awesome but i was sad for that fish just hoping a human would give it some food and suddenly yikes he IS food! most of the koi there are pretty big, the really small ones are down swimming lower in the pond. this one was mid sized compared to the rest so i figure a youngish fish just getting big enough to swim with the big guys. we looked around in the field next to the garden out of curiosity and because that bird wasn't that big and couldn't have taken it far to eat it. we didn't find them. it's a pretty little garden.

day 336 seal beach

at the jetty and san gabriel river. we walked around the new park, picnic area, walk way near the old rivers end cafe. i miss that restaurant. then we climbed down the rocks to walk on the sand by the water and we found some big sticks and so we wrote and drew a bunch of things in the sand.
